From dream to baby food innovation: the story behind Mama Deli

Entrepreneurship, motherhood, and making an impact in one story

2020 was a challenging year for many entrepreneurs, but for Marielle Smit, it also became a year of new opportunities. With the launch of her second company, Mama Deli, she introduced something unique to the market: freshly frozen baby food, ready in an instant.

At the same time, her first company, MME Hospitality, in the events industry, is under severe pressure due to the pandemic. Yet, Marielle does not sit still. She builds, adapts, and, most importantly, continues to believe in her vision: making healthy food accessible for the next generation.

In this interview, we share her story about entrepreneurship, balance, dreams, and the power of perseverance.

A start full of energy with Mama Deli

Mama Deli originated from a clear need: helping busy parents with healthy, pure baby food without any fuss. No jars with preservatives, but nutritious meals that come straight from the freezer.

For Marielle, it's more than a business: it's a mission.

"My goal is for the next generation to grow up with honest, healthy food instead of processed products."

Balance between entrepreneurship and motherhood

Marielle is a mother and an entrepreneur of two companies. How do you combine that?

Honest answer: not perfectly.

She works four days a week in the office and fills the rest of her time working during naps and evenings. Still, her daughter is always number one.

"I've actually become a better mother through my businesses. It keeps me sharp and aware."

With the help of a strong team and a lot of perseverance, she keeps moving forward.

Family, nature, and small moments of happiness

For Marielle, the most beautiful moments are not found in great luxury, but in simplicity.

  • Mornings with her family
  • Breakfast in bed
  • Weekend walks on the beach
  • Cycling and being outdoors in nature

These moments give her peace in a busy life.

About interior design and creating tranquility

Amidst all the hustle and bustle, work is also underway on a new house. Her style? Calm, warmth, and simplicity.

No overcrowded spaces, but an interior that breathes and relaxes.

"Too many things make me restless. It has to be warm and cozy, but also well-organized."

Me-time? A luxury that is still developing

True me-time is scarce in her life at the moment. Still, she consciously tries to create small moments for herself, such as exercising.

Boxing has become her outlet — a physical release from the mental pressure of entrepreneurship.

An unforgettable challenge: 705 km cycling through Italy

One of her most memorable experiences is her participation in the Strive Challenge. Together with her brother and friend, she cycled 705 kilometers through Italy for charity.

Without any experience on a racing bike, it became a mental and physical challenge that has always stayed with her.

"You can do so much more than you think. I carry that realization with me in everything I do."

The meaning of the stars

For Marielle, the stars have a personal and symbolic meaning. They represent memories, connection, and wonder.

Her daughter and the astrology surrounding them also play a role in this: an extra layer of meaning in life.

Dreams for the future

For the future, Marielle has two clear goals:

Personal:

  • Creating peace and balance in a new home
  • Health and happiness for her family

Business:

  • Further growth of Mama Deli
  • Making healthy baby food the standard, not the exception

Conclusion

Marielle Smit shows that entrepreneurship is not a straight line. It's adapting, persevering, and continuing to build — even when life doesn't cooperate.

With Mama Deli, she takes a clear step towards a healthier future for children, while proving every day that dreams can come true.

Or, as it is beautifully said: if you can dream it, you can do it.
